John (Jack) A. Gordon (1926-2013)

Jack Gordon dedicated almost his entire career to the practice of mineral law, and worked on virtually every aspect of oil and gas law. He prepared abstracts, rendered title opinions, drafted contracts and litigated. He practiced regulatory law representing clients before the Louisiana Conservation Commission, the State Mineral Board, the Department of Environmental Quality, the Security Exchange Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

Jack served more than a decade as Special Counsel to the Sewerage and Water Board. He represented the Board in every phase of its operations including defending rate increases, personal injury and property damage claims and working on resolving environmental issues.

Throughout his career, Jack was active in many professional and industry organizations and delivered several papers on oil and gas issues.

All of us at Gordon Arata are saddened by the passing of our dear friend, and one of the founding partners of our firm, Jack Gordon.  Jack was loved by all who knew him, in the legal community and beyond.  We will miss him dearly.
